Description

A fresh and flavorful Thai-style beef larb made with ground beef, lime juice, fish sauce, toasted rice powder, and fragrant herbs, offering a perfect balance of savory, tangy, and lightly spicy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups or 10 oz ground beef
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1/2 tsp MSG
  • 1/2 tbsp toasted rice powder
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp chili flakes, or to taste
  • 2 tbsp cilantro, chopped
  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup shallots, finely sliced

Instructions

  1. If chopping your own beef, slice it thinly against the grain, then finely chop until minced or into thin slices.
  2. Heat a pot over medium heat, add the water and ground beef, then stir and cook gently until the beef is just cooked or to your preferred doneness.
  3. Turn off the heat and either transfer the beef to a mixing bowl or keep it in the pot. Add lime juice, fish sauce, chili flakes, MSG, and toasted rice powder, then mix well until evenly coated.
  4. Gently stir in the sliced shallots, chopped cilantro, and green onions. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve immediately.

Notes

  • This dish is best enjoyed fresh and should be served immediately after mixing.
  • Adjust chili flakes to control the level of heat.
  • Hand-chopped beef creates a more traditional texture.
  • Toasted rice powder adds a nutty aroma and should not be skipped.
