Description
A fresh and flavorful Thai-style beef larb made with ground beef, lime juice, fish sauce, toasted rice powder, and fragrant herbs, offering a perfect balance of savory, tangy, and lightly spicy flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/4 cups or 10 oz ground beef
- 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 tbsp fish sauce
- 1/2 tsp MSG
- 1/2 tbsp toasted rice powder
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tsp chili flakes, or to taste
- 2 tbsp cilantro, chopped
- 2 stalks green onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup shallots, finely sliced
Instructions
- If chopping your own beef, slice it thinly against the grain, then finely chop until minced or into thin slices.
- Heat a pot over medium heat, add the water and ground beef, then stir and cook gently until the beef is just cooked or to your preferred doneness.
- Turn off the heat and either transfer the beef to a mixing bowl or keep it in the pot. Add lime juice, fish sauce, chili flakes, MSG, and toasted rice powder, then mix well until evenly coated.
- Gently stir in the sliced shallots, chopped cilantro, and green onions. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve immediately.
Notes
- This dish is best enjoyed fresh and should be served immediately after mixing.
- Adjust chili flakes to control the level of heat.
- Hand-chopped beef creates a more traditional texture.
- Toasted rice powder adds a nutty aroma and should not be skipped.
